| Using google drawing my group and I made this DLO about choosing a new flag. morning my class did 4,3,2,1 the way this works is we got 4 minutes to read the information about all of the five chosen flags, then we had three minutes to find a partner and talk about the flags we like, and give them a reason why, when we did that the we had two minutes to talk with a different partner about the one flag we like and 1 minute to get into a group of four explain to each other why we liked that one flag and give me a reason. Out of the 5 flags the one I like best is the silver fern (black, white and blue) the reason why is because I can see my culture shown in the flag and because I think the flag will good shown around the world and it is easy to be recognise as a NZ flag because of the fern. |
This blog is a record of my learning from Panmure Bridge Primary School and Glenbrae Primary School, through to Tamaki College.

Story Swap - Courtney and Tiare
Surrounded by the dark green trees was an old abandoned house. It looked as if nobody came and cleaned it for many years. I can still hear the rumors about the abandoned house ringing in my ears. As I was staring at the abandoned house I felt like walking towards it. Each step I took up the stairs leading to the house kept creaking under my foot . So when I walked into the house I found a dark staircase heading towards some rooms. I walked up the stairs scared about what might be up there.
When I got upstairs I would see all these doors with no door knobs on them. Some were chipped, some had no paint left on them and one room didn't even have a door. I walked into the first room in front of me and I stared at it for a moment it looked as if dolls were lying all of the bed and there was. I stared at the dolls waiting for something to happen. All of a sudden I heard a loud bang! coming from the closet behind me. I quickly looked over my shoulder but nothing or no one was there.
Once I looked in the closet there was this big doll that I found staring at me in a mysterious way my heart started beating rapidly because I felt unsafe and scared. Once I finished looking at the doll I ran out of the house and went home but when I ran outside it wasn't the same feeling as I felt when I was inside the house for all of a sudden for an unknown reason my body just shut down, by time I woke up it felt like I was sleeping for days, months or even years.
With my partner Tiare, together we wrote a recount about an old abandoned house. We wrote a Story Swap Recount which means that each person writes a sentence each. Something I learnt about writing a recount is that if you read the recount out loud you can hear your mistakes

Run Jump Throw
Run Jump Throw
Today I practised shot put and Discus with our coach Andy she has been showing us new skills on how how to throw Discus and how to throw a shot put. When we were practising on how to throw a shot put she taught us to hold the ball in your fingers and not in your palm. She told us to remember dirty fingers dirty neck and clean palm. We have to keep the ball just under our ear.
Andy also told us to remember to when we are pulling back the shot put to keep our elbow high and to keep your chin and knee and toes all in a row. In Discus the skills that we learnt is to place the disc in your hand but not to grip it. We also learnt when we are throwing the disc to swing the disc with hand you're holding it with, and the clap the disc on your left hand, pull it back and fling it fast.

Speech: The Importance of Recycling.
Recycling it's one of those things that will help save the earth.Just imagine how much waste 4.471 million people can make.Hello teachers and students i'm here to tell you about the importance of recycling.
Don’t you care about the earth? Each day we throw away more and more rubbish that could be easily recycled. If we are recycling not only will it help animals from becoming extinct but it will also help countries avoid pollution.
Pollution, landfills, environment, habitat those are the reasons why we should recycle. By recycling, the world will have less landfills, the environment will be healthy, countries would be able to avoid pollution and animals habitats won't be destroyed by rubbish.
Every year 9,000,000,000 trees are cut down around the world to provide paper and wood but do we really need to cut down so many trees. It is believed that America throw away 28 million bottles and jars each year which means 10,000,00 trees are being cut down which is wasteful..
If you agree with me that recycling is important then you can help by throwing rubbish in the right bins, being careful about what you buy and try to avoid buying anything plastic.
Recycling is important even if you think it’s not.If you don't recycle than the earth will change but not in a good way, there will be more landfills not enough green space and animals will lose their homes.
There are many things in your house that could be recycled like cans, paper, boxes and glass. If you have any of these things don't be ridiculous and recycles.School paper, books, newspaper, magazines and plastic. Those are just some of the things that we can make out of recycled items.
Recycling not only save our natural resources but also help save our energy. By simply recycling an item we can we save all the energy that would have been put in the process of making it.Many products like cardboard, cups, wood comes from trees.Countries like Niger,Chad,Zambia and Togo needs our help and we can help them by recycling. Rooftops, schools, houses, books, desks, chairs those items can help the adults and children everyday and those same items can be made if we just recycle.
Every week in America they cut down half a million trees just to provide their Sunday newspaper. We can save 75.00 trees each year by recycling recyclable items like cans boxes and glass. If we recycles newspapers we could save over 25 million trees each year.75%of our rubbish can be recycled but people are being careless and throwing away rubbish i the wrong bins.Recycling just 1 ton of paper can save 17 trees and 7,000 gallons of water.Did you know that the United States waste 4 million plastic bottles every hour. And only 25 percent of them get recycled.Do you really want to end up like them?
When you go to your local supermarket try and bring a non plastic bag from home and not a plastic bag 17 billion plastic bags are given away by supermarkets every year - That's 290 bags per person!
So therefore that is why we need to recycle.Think about it less landfills greener spaces clean air doesn't that sound like a better place to live in than having to live with polluted air, rubbish every where, animals dying!
Recycling it's important.
This week our school was practising speeches and poems. Here is my speech my,speech is about the importance of recycling. I think its a good idea for countries around the world to start thinking more about recycling.
