Abstract artist

Abstract art is a type of art that you cannot recognize when you first look at the panting. A abstract panting is supposed to hide what the panting really is and disguise it with color and shapes. It is known that Abstract art is about exploring different forms of color.

One famous Abstract artist is a man named Pablo Picasso. One of Pablo famous piece of art work called Guernica, Guernica is a moral sized panting  that Pablo completed in June 1937. It is known that this panting was one the most powerful panting about anti - war in history.

What did Pablo Guernica draw:

First kiwi session for term 4

Today was the first session of kiwi can for this term. For term 4 our new theme is respect and our topic is respect for our school. During our kiwi can session we talked about how we can respect  people  inside of school  and outside of school also we were put into groups of five to act out a role play about encouragement, appreciation, fair play and friendship.  After we acted out our role play other people had to guess what our role play was about.  For our activity we played game outside where there were 4 cones in in each corner label with our previous themes. Each time our kiwi can teacher called out a theme we all had to run to the cone without being tagged. At the end of kiwi can we played a game of gkq which was fun.

Kiwi can reflection

Today was the last kiwi can session for this term. Once a week room 7 goes to kiwi can after morning tea and during that time I learnt  about problem solving, perseverance and goal setting . This term I really enjoyed our class kiwi sessions and learning about new topics.

For me, learning about problem setting was really interesting. I learnt many ways of how to find a solution to things that might occur in our everyday life and I  also learnt to never give up and to try my best when I am faced with a problem . This term I used my knowledge on what I know about problem solving and tried my best to a find solution when ever I was faced with a problem when I am at school and at home.

When I was learning about goal setting I learnt how to plan out my goals that I want to achieve and what the difference is between long term goals and short term goals.  Long term goals is when you set out a goal that will take time to achieve. Short term goal is when you can achieve that goal in a short period of time.

Our last topic for term 3 was perseverance. Perseverance  is when you keep on trying and never giving up despite how hard it could be. I know that these topics will come in handy in the future.

Duffy assembly

After morning tea the students from Glen Brae had a Duffy assembly . A Duffy assembly is when a group of people come to a school and preform a play about reading. First they started of the assembly by jamming with us, we sang a song called love yourself. The play that we saw today was about time travel. A boy named Duffy sets out on a mission to time travel back in time to 1945 when the war was just about to start. He traveled back in time to try and save a man named Bill who was the father of Duffy neighbor Ruby. I think the play was fun to watch because the characters were really interesting and the Duffy performers made us laugh a lot.

Afternoon Fitness

This afternoon my class played a game of  octopus outside. The way the game works is there are at least three taggers in this game and  the rest are the runners. Dora, Marara and Jayden were the first three taggers, of the game. The first call was octopus so everyone ran. In the first game of octopus I was tagged. So I had to stay in the place where I got tagged and wait for the others to run. We played another game of octopus but this time I wasen't tagged for a few rounds. I had more fun playing the second game of octopus.

I know who I am - Poem recitle

Sometimes when I look in the mirror I would ask myself  who am I?But as soon as that thought comes to mind it quickly disappears.
I know who I am…..
I am the blessed child raised by a perfect mother. I am the youngest child out of my three  older siblings. I am a proud maori girl coming from a powerful tribe. I am proud of who I am. We are all different From our hair down our toes we are different
So why is everyone trying to be the same?Everyone in this room has a different background. Coming from different countries and different families. So why when  I look around all I see is people .People who are not being themselfs. People who are folllowing others into the wrong path. What I am is trying to say in this poem to be yourslef and be happy about it

Today in class we had the chance to recite our poems we have been writing for a few weeks. We thought really hard and carfully about what are poems are about. My poem I wrote is called identity. Its about being yourself, knowing who you are and not to follow others.  When I was presenting my poem to the class I was feeling a bit nervouse but once I got halfway through my poem I was no longer nervouse and I was felling calm.

Netball session

In the morning my class has a session with our coach named Anne, she thought us new skills when playing netball and helped us practice with our  intercepting. First we warmed up and then start playing some games that would help us with playing netball. The first game we played was a intercept activtiy when we played that game what w had to do was get into a pair of three and two people had to pass the ball to each other while the other person has to try and intercept. After a while of playing that game next we played a activtiy named four corner attack this game helped us with our attacking and defending. The last game we played was when we practiced our shooting. During this time I learnt how to intercept, defend, shooting and attacking.

Narrative writing - An upward struggle

An Upward struggle

Lara let out a gasp as she reached up for the next finger hold. She could feel the sun burning her back and shoulders, not even halfway of the climb Lara was covered in sweat. She let out a loud grunt and forced herself to keep climbing the dove white mountain. Lara could feel her back and arms aching as she struggled to keep going. Even though Lara love climbing she wasn't enjoying herself, never in her life has she climbed a mountain so steep. She could taste the saltiness of her own sweat that as it dripped down onto her lips. Straining her muscles she lunged towards the next finger hold.

Ignoring the pain that she could feel in her body she kept climbing and climbing Lara wasn't that type of person that would give up. During her struggle she heard a rumbling noise coming from her left, Lara let out a gasp as huge wall of snow came crashing down fortunately for her Lara was a safe distance away but she could still feel the impact, Lara braced herself and waited till the little avalanche stopped, she could hear the snow tumbling to the ground with a powerful impact. Lara let a shaky breath and and tried to calm herself down. She could still feel her heart rapidly beating in her chest. Lara stood still not daring to move she closed her eyes and let out a deep breath, 1 , 2, 3, 4, 5….  She counted to 10 to try and calm herself.

After a while of resting Lara decided it was a safe time to go on and start climbing.
It was victory, she did it despite the pain and danger she was faced with Lara did it.

She made it to the top of the mountain.

Here is a piece of narrative writing that I did using google docs. My narrative is about a mountain climber Lara who task was to climb to the top of the snowy mountain. The purpose for writing a narrative was to get better and hopefully use the skill that we learnt to help improve out writing and move up ti the next level.

NZ flag change

LI: To make an informed choice based on the information.

Today the students of LS2 took part in the NZ flag change, based on what we think we selected what flag NZ should have the current flag or the new flag. We thought about reasons about why we should change the flag and why we shouldn't and selected which one we think would be better for NZ. We made are own inform choice based on  information and facts that we found online.

Keeping the pace - Writing

Exemplar 1:

On the street, day time. Leg’s run along the pavement. They are Mark Renton’s. Just ahead of him is Spud. They are both belting along. As they travel various objects, ( pens, tapes, CD’s toiletries, ties, sunglasses and so on)
either fall or discarded from inside their jackets. They are pursued by two hard looking store detectives in identical uniforms. The men are fast, but Renton and spud maintain their lead. Suddenly, as Renton crosses a road, a car skids to halt, inches from him. In a moment of detachment Renton stops and looks at the shocked driver, then at Spud, who has continued running, then at the two men who are closing in. He smiles.

He stood there thinking, of ways to get out of this problem. Renton looks behind him seeing that the detectives were only five steps away. One of the detectives reached out his hands to grab the collar of Renton's T- shirt. Renton panic he sprinted as fast as he could, dodging the beeping cars. He raced through the streets trying to get away from the detectives, not caring who was in front of him. Up a head Spud was pumping his legs, jumping over food stalls and pushing people over.
“ You got to catch up” yelled Spud.
As he looked backed seeing that Renton was having trouble getting away from the detectives.
Spud could hear angry voices behind him. He could hear the angry shouts coming from the people he pushed.
Renton was a fair distance away from the detectives his heart was beating rapidly in his chest. All of a sudden Renton heard someone scream, ahead of him not watching where he was going Spud crashed into a angry woman who was just about to cross the streets. Spud stumbled hard, hitting his head as he fell to the ground. One of the detectives ran ahead of Renton seeing this was the only opportunity to catch Spud. The other detective ran to Spud with cuffs in his hand trying to get him to stand up. Renton took a deep breath, as the detectives were to busy talking to Spud they forgot about Renton. Renton didn't waste any time and sprinted away from the detectives not caring that Supd was hurt. Renton ran to the corner of the streets thinking that he was going to get away but there were two cops cars waiting for him. He couldn't turn back.

They caught him.

Here is a writing task that my teacher Mrs Anderson had set up for us. The purpose of this task was to learn how to keep the pace when a writing a narrative. We chose two exemplar writing's exemplar one and exemplar two and we had to carry on the rest of the story by keeping the pace. I chose exemplar one because for me I think that one was more interesting.

Dialouge challenge

For writing our teacher set us up with a task to create a conversion between the two characters the big bad wolf and the three little pigs from the story three little pigs. What we had to do was, by using I fake text in two pairs or a group of three we had to use dialouge and more interesting words other that most common words to create the conversion but with different scenario for each conversion.

Trust activity

Here in this photo Juanita and I are doing a trust activity that our teacher Mrs Anderson has set up for the Yr 8. What we had to do was to find a partner and take turns walking around our school with our eyes close while the other partner guided us. I think the Yr 8 did this activity really well and also this activity helped us build trust with each other.

Duffy

This afternoon I presented as Duffy for the full school assembly. Every week at the assembly a Yr 7 or 8 student presents as duffy. Duffy is when someone is presenting a book to that they have read and  telling a short blurb about the book. The book I chose to present was Paper planes by Allayne Webster.

Tech - 3D printing

Today at Tamaki college the Yr 7 and 8 students went to Tech. The Yr 7 did cooking and the Yr 8 did Art and 3D printing. In 3D printing what we did was we created a DLO about jewellery, we searched for different type of jewellery and named what they are. The purpose of making this DLO is because in 3D printing we are making a type of jewellery for someone that is close to us.`

Stretching our sentences

By using the five w's I have made up my own simple sentence and created it into a more interesting sentence with lots more detail. I have learnt that that using the five w's in my writing will make the reader much more interested in what they are reading.

Juanita and I have created a DLO about the culture in LS2. This graph shows that there are more Tongan students in our class than other cultures. We asked our class mates what culture they are and made a telly chart then as you can see we put in a graph. The purpose of of making this graph was to find out more about our class mates and teachers.

Day 5 - Summer learning journey

Day 5 Activity 1: Once you have read these phrases you will be ready to leave the airport and head to your hotel. Take a moment and imagine how you might feel if you were standing in an airport in a foreign country and you didn’t speak the language. Would you be scared? Would you feel confident? Write a short poem that describes how you might be feeling (i.e. excited, happy, scared, nervous, etc). Post your poem on your blog.

Feeling nervous I don't know what to do I look around and nothing looks familiar Unsure what I should do to I look around for help I'm asking people if they speak English they look away not knowing what else to do Anxious about the journey ahead of me but cant help but feeling excited I ignore the butterflies in my stomach and focus more on my trip I look to the left and see the clear blue water of the ocean I smile, happy that I didn't turn my back on this wonderful trip.

Day four- Summer learning journey

Day four- Bonus activity
It’s time to use your imagination to write a short story. I’ve provided you with three different beginnings for a story. Choose your favourite beginning and finish the story. What happens next? You can use your imagination and create any ending that you want. Post the ending that you have created on your blog.

I looked around the room. Nothing seemed unusual, but then… I saw something moving in the corner of the room it was hidden under a old dusty blanket I slowly walked towards the moving object afraid of what it could be when I got close enough I took of the blanket and I lost my voice I couldn't scream I froze just looking at the object I slowly turned around and ran out of the room promising myself that i'll never go in that room again.

Day four- Summer learning journey

Day four Activity 2: Read the following reviews of these three books - Catching Fire, Matilda and Diary of a Wimpy Kid - The Ugly Truth. They are all books that are really popular in Canada. If you had to choose one of these three books for Curious Kiwi to read on the plane, which one would you choose? Post the name of the book on your blog. Underneath the title, explain why you would choose that book.

If I could choose a book for curious kiwi to read while on the plan I would choose
Catching fire because it sounds like a book that can hook the reader in at the beginning of the book and can keep the reader interested through out the book.
